Critical thinking is one of the most abused terms in out thinking skills. Generally, critical thinking means whatever its users stipulate it to mean. The term critical thinking is used to mean all thinking operations, from decision making, to analysis of part-whole relationships. Critical thinking is essentially evaluation in nature. it involves precise, persistant, and objective analysis of any claim,source, or belief to judge its accuracy,validity, or worth.

The direct instuction model emerged as an outgrowth of attempts to synthesize principles of effective teaching into a practical pedagogical model. Direct instruction emphasizes active teaching and student “time on task”. Elements of the model include explicit instruction in identified skills and concepts, guided practice with immediate feedback, frequent reviews and “checks” for understanding, and independent practice.

Understanding the nature of thinking can serve as goals of instruction as a prerequisite to building any potentially effective thinking programme. Understanding can develop by examining three things: the general nature of thinking and its key components, the interrelationships of the various functions that thinking serves, and the various kind of mental processes or procedures by which thinking is operationalized.

The teaching of thinking divided to three type: direct teaching of thinking, infusion approach and immersion approach.

The infusion approach is a “deep, thoughtful” instruction in subject-matter content in which the general principles of thinking are made explicit. Infusion involves more than “getting thinking going”. In infusion, deliberate sustained attention is given to both subject-matter learning and improving thinking.

The immersion approach is an alternative to infusion. Immersion is thought-provoking subject-matter instruction in which the principles of complex thinking are not made explicit. Student are expected to think.Indeed, they are made to think by the subject-matter learning..
